Mickey Arthur Likely to Be Appointed as Sri Lanka's Coach

"We are thankful to Sri Lanka Cricket for agreeing to send their team for the longer version of the game, which will contribute significantly in the PCB's efforts and drive for regular resumption of global cricket, and help in its endeavours of attracting new audiences and younger generation", PCB Director Zakir Khan said in an official statement.

Earlier, PCB announced in a press release that the top-level Test cricket will return to Pakistan in December after more than 10 years when Sri Lanka returns to play the World Test Championship matches in Rawalpindi and Karachi.

If Arthur becomes Sri Lanka's coach, then he will be the 11th coach of the men's team, including interim appointments, since 2011.

Arthur was Pakistan's coach till the conclusion of the Cricket World Cup, but he was let go by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bring in Misbah-ul-Haq as the coach of the side.

Sri Lanka could only manage to win three matches out of the nine they played and failed to make the cut into the last four in the ODI showpiece. However, Sri Lanka was clean swept by Australia in the T20I series. Sri Lanka has an inexperienced squad and they are now in the transition period. However, the tours were swapped so that Sri Lanka officials could assess the security situation in Pakistan before deciding on the test venues.

PCB said Sri Lanka agreed to move forward with the series of tests after the successful presentation of one-day internationals and Twenty20 in September and October. Pakistan's cricket trajectory is set to experience one of its most emotional and truly historic moments, with the ending of a decade-long drought in Test cricket.

According to the highly placed sources in SLC, South Africa-born Arthur will be in Pakistan with the Sri Lankan team as a consultant and Rumesh Ratnayake will be the head coach.
