The governor has been widely criticized, including by fellow Democrats, after former aide Charlotte Bennett told The New York Times that he sexually harassed her past year.

According to Bennett, Cuomo said in June he was open to dating women in their 20s, and asked her if she thought age made a difference in romantic relationships.

An email seeking comment was sent to Ruch's business. Her social media accounts were private.

Cefalu told Fox News that Cuomo's comments had nothing to do with sexual harassment and that she didn't feel pressured to eat the sandwich. I am pleased that Attorney General Tish James will now commence a truly independent investigation with full subpoena powers.

"We will hire a law firm, deputize them as attorneys of our office, and oversee a rigorous and independent investigation", New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement. Bennett said that while Cuomo never touched her, "I understood that the governor wanted to sleep with me, and felt horribly uncomfortable and scared", Bennett told the Times. In addition to credible accusations of sexual harassment, Cuomo faces federal probes into whether he hid the covid-19 death toll in NY nursing homes, and fresh attention to his abusive leadership style.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and other elected officials have said that while Cuomo is under investigation, he should cede emergency powers he's held since the pandemic began, almost a year ago.

A spokesman for the National Governors Assn. did not respond to a request for comment on Monday. "Women are not going back to being quiet about sexual harassment and workplace intimidation, and their accusations must be taken seriously and investigated fully and independently", said Sen.

"These stories are hard to read, and the allegations brought forth raise serious questions that the women who have come forward and all New Yorkers deserve answers to". She said that Cuomo told her he was lonely and looking for a girlfriend.

CNN has issued a recent statement regarding Cuomo and his brother.

Boylan alleged in the Medium post that Cuomo invited her to "play strip poker" during a 2017 flight on his taxpayer-funded jet while another aide was seated beside her and a state trooper behind her.

"I do not accept the governor's proposal", she said. She was particularly critical of a Cuomo Prime Time segment last spring in which Chris Cuomo brought out an oversized cotton swab, meant to test for the coronavirus, to make fun of the size of his brother's nose.

In her essay, Boylan wrote, "Governor Andrew Cuomo has created a culture within his administration where sexual harassment and bullying is so pervasive that it is not only condoned but expected". I have teased people about their personal lives, their relationships, about getting married or not getting married.

Ms Bennett said she informed Mr Cuomo's chief of staff, Jill DesRosiers, after the interaction and less than a week later was transferred to another job.

The governor said some of his behavior with women "may have been insensitive or too personal", but denied harassing anyone. "But as I said, everyone has a right to be able to come forward, speak their truth, and be heard".

"I ask all New Yorkers to await the findings of the review so that they know the facts before making any judgements", Mr Cuomo said.

"The Governor's office wants a review of the sexual harassment claims made against the Governor to be done in a manner beyond reproach", said Beth Garvey, special counsel to the governor.

Ross Garber, a lawyer who has represented former governors Mark Sanford of SC and John Rowland of CT, said Cuomo is "essentially handing his reputation to an outsider and saying, 'Have at it".

The governor's office backtracked on its original plan to choose its own investigator after widespread criticism from fellow Democrats.

"The notion that his behaviour was simply unwanted "flirtation" that may have caused "offence" entirely ignores a workplace hierarchy in which he - the governor of the state - was positioned at the very top", Tuerkheimer said.

'He was abusing his power over her for sex.

The video has poured fuel on the fire as the NY governor has recently been accused of sexual harassment. Republican leaders had, for days, called on James to launch a probe.

Cuomo, who denies any wrongdoing, had earlier chosen former federal judge Barbara Jones to lead a probe.

Finally, on Sunday, Cuomo acquiesced to James' demands that she take control.
