It seems that compact phones are beginning to grow in popularity as companies like Apple, Google, and Samsung (to an extent) ship devices with smaller screens but much more manageable form factors. That phone will undoubtedly be the Xperia's biggest competition.
After Sony Xperia 10 III renders surfaced last week, now the renders of the upcoming Xperia Compact phone have also surfaced online. While the Xperia Compact line of phones was scrapped a couple of years ago, an earlier report had claimed that Sony will launch the new Xperia Compact series in 2021. Dimensions of the Xperia Compact are claimed to be 53x72x11.1mm, which means it will be bigger than the iPhone 12 Mini on all sides, despite packing a display of nearly the same size. The latter's thickness suggests that, unlike previous models, this will be more of a mid-range product than a premium flagship. Let us know in the comments section. If you had a device of the brand, or looked at it at the time, the last one dates from 2018 and belonged to the XZ2 series.
Serial leaker Stever Hemmerstoffer (@Onleaks) on Sunday revealed newly leaked images of the company's upcoming Compact Xperia, a 5.5-inch device that's smaller than its 2017 predecessor, the popular but relatively short-lived 5.7-inch Xperia XZ1. For comparison's sake, the iPhone 12 Mini has the following dimensions: 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4 mm.
Two cameras are placed on the back of the phone, and they are arranged vertically in a slender pill-shaped module together with the LED flash. However, given the dual-lens nature of the Xperia Compact, we could, of course, see something else entirely. The 2021 Xperia Compact has an edge over Apple's small-sized iPhones and that is the audio jack at the top. Until the phone is official, all bets are off. Seeing as most manufacturers had dropped small screen phones in favor of larger ones with tall aspect ratios, Sony too had followed suit.
Sony has a MASSIVE opportunity here to do something. Apple made a decision to bring users a smaller form factor with the iPhone 12 mini. Since then though, we have just seen phone sizes increasing.
