The story centers on Reynolds, who must travel back in time to get help from his 13-year-old self to solve a mystery. He has risked everything to come back in time on a secret mission and together they must embark on an adventure into the past to find their father (Mark Ruffalo), set things right, and save the world from Catherine Keener and her diabolical plans. Meanwhile, Catherine Keener will play the movie's villain, a woman who's stolen mysterious and powerful technology from the "Avengers' star".
Alex Mallari Jr.is also set to appear, playing the villain's right hand man.
Ruffalo and Reynolds have never worked together, so it should be fun to see them share the screen before Reynolds' foul-mouthed version of Deadpool inevitably finds a way to cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe where Ruffalo has spent so much of his recent career. The film will be directed by Levy (Stranger Things) from a screenplay written by Jonathan Tropper and David Ellison. Recently scooped up by Netflix, The Adam Project will see Reynolds once again team-up with Free Guy director Shawn Levy, and has David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger on board as producers. Reynolds and Levi will both produce the action-adventure film through their respective production banners Maximum Effort and 21 Laps Entertainment.
The project is the first movie to be produced under Reynolds new The Group Project initiative, aimed at giving people of color a chance to work on his movies.
Reynolds and Levy's new film Free Guy was originally slated for release in July, before it was pushed to December 11, though earlier this month it was pushed into 2021. We previously wrote about how Jennifer Garner is playing the 13-year-old's mother and Zoe Saldana is playing Reynolds' wife, a fighter pilot in present day.
