With Guardiola locked in, Man City go for Messi reunion

Premier League is not just Guardiola v Klopp says Liverpool boss

Liverpool fans react as Pep Guardiola signs new deal at Man City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2022-23 season, the Premier League club said on Thursday.

Paris St-Germain have also been linked with the 33-year-old, although every candidate Barcelona presidential election - to be held in January - has said it is a priority for them to persuade Messi to stay at the Nou Camp.

Rivaldo has now revealed his take on the ongoing situation in Spain.

The other two were won by Chelsea by seven points in 2016-17 and Liverpool by 18 last season.

Messi was nearing a move to England during the summer transfer window. This was eventually stopped as Barca revealed that City would have to pay his massive £629 million release clause first.

City suffered a 2-0 loss to Tottenham on Saturday, a result which sees them sit 11th in the table, eight points behind leaders Spurs but having played one less game.

There has arguably been a feeling that Guardiola's time at City may slowly be coming to an end, particularly as he didn't outstay his welcome at either Barcelona or Bayern Munich. If you ask me my opinion I have huge gratitude for what Barcelona have done for me.

"What I want is [for him] to finish his career there".

His contract with the Catalan club will finish after this season and can join another club on a free transfer next summer, if Barcelona fail to convince the Argentine to sign an extension. "I would wish - as I've said I don't know how many times, maybe a thousand times - I would like as a Barcelona fan for Leo to finish there".

However, Guardiola went on to say that he wasn't sure what would happen to Messi if he does decide to leave. They gave me absolutely everything from the start, from my time at the academy.
