Deadpool 3 is officially in the works, according to a new report from Deadline. Meetings have been taking place over the past few weeks, with Reynolds meeting various writers, hearing their pitches for the third film.
"In the end, the studio and Reynolds saw the sisters" take as the ideal fit for what they wanted", Deadline says, adding that while the film is still in "early development", the hiring of the Molyneux sisters marks the "first major step' in getting the next instalment into production.
It's now unclear as to whether director David Leitch will return to helm the third installment in the franchise, with sources reporting that given his busy schedule through 2021, it's unlikely but that the door remains open should he become available, though no word has been given as to why Deadpool 1 and 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are not returning to pen the latest outing.
Emmy-winning writers Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux have been tapped to write "Deadpool 3", with Ryan Reynolds set to return as the foul-mouthed mercenary. Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 finds Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as the Merc with a Mouth alongside Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as the luck-manipulating mutant Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable, the time-traveling son of the X-Men's Cyclops.
Sharing the update during an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan, the actor said: "We're working on it right now with the whole team". "We're over at Marvel, which is the big leagues all of a sudden. It's kinda insane. So yeah, we're working on it". The pair are best known as writers and producers on the hit animated seriesBob's Burgers.
Disney and Marvel had no comment on the development, first reported by Deadline.
