OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirms that he has quit

OnePlus, based on Shenzen, China was founded by Pete Lau and Pei back in 2013, and the company launched its first OnePlus One smartphone in December 2014. But OnePlus grew to become a household name in the years to come and now it holds a prominent place in the premium smartphone segment around the world.

Days after reports first came to light that OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, might have left the company that he helped found along with Pete Lau, the man himself has broken his silence and confirmed the news.

The rumours suggest that Pei had a fallout with co-founder Pete Lau after a difference of opinions about the OnePlus Nord which was launched earlier this year. As of Friday, the news is official as per a farewell letter posted to the OnePlus forums.

Pei confirmed the news through a blog post that read, "After almost 7 years at OnePlus, I've made the hard decision to say goodbye". "The things we've accomplished and learned, I can't begin to imagine a more rewarding adventure", Pei wrote. Because at the end of the day, we all know that Carl was instrumental in bringing OnePlus to where it is now and if they don't keep on doing the same things, they might have a decline in the future.

"Having just turned 24 when OnePlus started, it's where I spent most of my 20s, and also where I grew up". And the team. The wonderful people that I've been fortunate to fight side by side with. We've seen some of the false steps along the way; right through to the major achievements in recent times. The friendships I've made here are the most precious parts of this journey.

He further noted the strength of the team at OnePlus, showing his confidence in them and the company as a whole to continue to kick goals and deliver great products. TechCrunch reached out to OnePlus for comment on Monday and has yet to hear back. The trust, mentorship, and camaraderie will never be forgotten.

"I've never regretted trusting my gut feeling, and this time it's no different".

He added that during his tenure at OnePlus, the company has been his singular focus and everything else had to take a backseat. Also, he said the cliche lines of "spending time with the family and friends" but we know it is important since he was committed to OnePlus all the time these last years. "And then follow my heart on to what's next", he said. The OnePlus One was a radical new smartphone that would combine a high-end chipset with a midrange price point.
