I'll play Griezmann where I want, says Barca coach Koeman

'I decide what's best for the team': Barca boss Ronald Koeman dismisses dissent from French star Antoine Griezmann

Koeman's message for Griezmann: Give everything and I'm the boss

New Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has shut down complaints from Antoine Griezmann after the French global suggested to the media the Dutchman doesn't know how to best utilize him in his starting eleven.

Griezmann continues struggling to produce his best form for Barca, but was on target for France in the global break and told the press afterward that France coach Didier Deschamps "knows where to play" him.

Koeman will have to decide how to organize his defense in Getafe with left-backs Jordi Alba and Junior Firpo both injured: one option could be to play Clement Lenglet on the left with Ronald Araujo partnering Gerard Pique in central defense, or recent arrival Sergino Dest could play at left-back despite being naturally right-footed.

"I spoke to him yesterday, we talked about his position and his performances, and I told him that I look for the best solution for the team, and if I think he is better off moving down the right wing, then I'll play him there". He could also play as a No. 10 or a No. 9. But I decide what is best for the team.

"He is already doing all he can do: he works hard, has an excellent discipline and now he must be luckier with his final touch". In the France vs Netherlands game, he played on the right wing. The coach is in charge and must get the most out of the players.

"You don't have to talk so much about a footballer or compare him to anyone else".

"I have no problem with Antoine". In fact, when I was the Dutch coach, in a game against France, he played on the right. Griezmann can play on the inside band, he's left-handed and can get the performance, "he concluded".

After the French forward's statements at the end of his team's game against Croatia in which he explained that Didier Deschamps "does know where to put me", Koeman did not want to be particularly upset but, equally, he did not shy away from talking about the matter and sent him a message very clear. He's a victor who always wants to play, but I want to talk with him and the others and see how they are physically. But Leo has been playing a very tight schedule for many years.

"He is a player who if he does not play is more exhausted. If there is a medical issue or fatigue it is different, but he is capable of playing the next important games that lie ahead".

Koeman told reporters at a news conference to preview Saturday's meeting with Getafe that Griezmann must focus on producing his best display wherever he is used. He knows when he's not at his level. "I think it's going to be too early for him. We must not forget that he is very young".
