Residents returning to their homes were advised to use Glendora Mountain Road, as State Route 39 remains closed.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District extended its smoke advisory through Friday afternoon with most of its jurisdiction experiencing smoke impacts.

Other major blazes have also wreaked death and destruction in the neighboring state of OR and in Washington state, further to the north.

The Mount Wilson Observatory is no longer at risk in a wildfire burning in the mountains surrounding Los Angeles, a spokesperson for the United States Forest Service said Wednesday.

"He'd continue to discover other galaxies throughout the 1920s, eventually making another big finding in 1929: that the universe was expanding".

"Although we have received some moisture, there is still fire danger in western Colorado", Scott Fitzwilliams, White River National Forest supervisor, said in a news release.
