While they can't yet say for certain that the homicides are linked, Insp. Both victims were stabbed and the incidents happened in close proximity to each other. There's some other angles that we're working on as well that I can't disclose yet, but ... it's certainly something we can't ignore.

Post-mortem examinations are scheduled for Monday, as investigators are asking people with information about Tiberio's whereabouts before the incident to come forward so that police can try to determine the attack's motivation.

Zafis's death prompted a statement of condolence from the mosque where he both worked and worshipped.
"We know that many of us are saddened beyond words, and are afraid and anxious after such an act of violence struck so close to home", the statement says, noting those affected can contact a mental health hotline or arrange a meeting with a spiritual counsellor.
