Mike D'Antoni Informs Rockets He Won't Return As Head Coach

D'Antoni and the Rockets were unable to agree to an extension last offseason. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news and D'Antoni later released a statement confirming he is leaving Houston.

"Mike is a true professional and an wonderful basketball mind", Fertitta said. Houston was 28-23 in the postseason during D'Antoni's tenure, losing in the conference semifinals three times and the conference finals once (2017-18). "He is a victor, and we have been blessed to have had such an outstanding coach and leader to work with the past four seasons".

There has been a lot of speculation about his future and the Rockets wanted to keep him, however, there are already rumors about D'Antoni moving to the Pelicans and having the chance to coach a young team which includes Zion Williamson.

He was 217-102 in four seasons as the Rockets head coach, but the team struggled to make it to the NBA Finals. D'Antoni has seen it all, coaching 1,199 regular-season National Basketball Association games after beginning his career on the sidelines in Italy.

The Houston Rockets' season came to an end on Saturday, and that has led to questions about how they will handle their head coaching situation. "Mike has done some unbelievable things here".
