The Utes were set to begin their season Sept. 3 with the annual rivalry matchup against Brigham Young University, followed by non-conference games against Montana State and Wyoming, before beginning conference play at California Sept. 26.
The Pac-12 is targeting September 26 as a new start date for its revised 10-game, conference-only fall schedule, and revealed the contents of that schedule in a league press release Friday afternoon. The one non-conference game was meant, in part, to salvage traditional rivalry games with SEC schools like Clemson-South Carolina and Louisville-Kentucky.
"The health, safety and welfare of our student-athletes, coaches, staff - anyone who touches our programs - will continue to be at the forefront as we attempt to navigate our way through the coming months". "The schedule and plans approved today and path to return to competition are subject to public health orders and will be taken in accordance with the health and well-being guidelines developed by our Pac-12 Medical Advisory Committee".
As for the start date, the conference announced that the 2020 Pac-12 football season will begin on Saturday, Sept. 26.
"The schedule and return to play plans provide for maximum flexibility and the best opportunity to play all fall sports in an environment that prioritizes safety".
Each Pac-12 team will play five home and five road games, with the conference championship played on December 18 or 19 at the home stadium of one of the participants. "We are appreciative of Commissioner Scott, the Pac-12 staff and everyone involved across our 12 institutions for working collaboratively to create these schedules".
