Prime Video Watch Party is only available for US Prime members and Prime Video subscribers for the time being, and you need to be on a desktop browser to use it. The platform has rolled out a new watch party feature that allows users to watch movies together online.
Amazon Prime Video is upping its game in the socially distanced streaming wars.
An Amazon Prime Video app is now available for Windows 10 in the Microsoft Store. This will generate a link that you can share through any method you choose, but the people you send it to will still need to be Prime subscribers based in the United States in order to join.
With Prime Video Channels, Prime members can subscribe to more than 150 premium and specialty channels like HBO, SHOWTIME, STARZ, and Cinemax. The host can even line-up movies and shows for binge-watching.
For those who have it, though, it opens up a far more social way to watch Amazon Prime movies and Amazon Prime TV shows at home in social isolation. The titles have to be available for streaming, though, as Watch Party does not now support rentals or purchases. The host of the watch party will invite other users and will have full control over the viewing experience. There is a built-in chat function, too, enabling you to communicate throughout with both text and emojis (the most important part of any film critique).
