Serious Sam 4 Launches for Steam and Google Stadia in August

The gory and completely over the top shooter will release sometime in August 2020 for PC and Stadia.

Devolver Digital, the game's publisher, confirmed to Kotaku that Serious Sam 4 will be exclusive to Stadia for a period of time, though the exact timeframe is still unknown. The fourth instalment is set to release this year but with a catch. And it's great to have a tone of content to sink our teeth into. Serious Sam 4, based on a series of short new videos that dropped today, will take the opposite approach when it arrives in August, by sticking very closely to the tried-and-true ridiculousness of the previous games.

You can see the videos below.

The new entry in the series adds what the devs are calling the Legion system - basically, a way to put thousands upon thousands of enemies on screen at once at a reasonable performance cost.

Serious Sam 4 is due out in Summer 2021 for PS4. It looks to be a natural way to escalate the scale of Serious Sam without losing that core fast-action shooting.

Here's something we're sure you're delighted to read.

Croteam is promising "battlefields teeming with thousands of enemies" that will feature a mix of old creatures, like the Kleer and the Headless Kamikaze, and new creatures that include the Belcher and something called the Processed. Whatever Croteam has in store, it looks like we'll be talking about Serious Sam for a while.

It's a shame that console gamers may have to wait a full year to play Serious Sam 4 but at least they know it's coming.
