Warriors' Stephen Curry interviews nation's top infectious disease expert on COVID-19

On Thursday, Curry will host a coronavirus question-and-answer session with infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, who will join Curry on Instagram to take questions on how to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

'We will get enough experience so that when it does come back we'll be able to immediately identify, isolate and contact-trace, ' Fauci told Curry during a web interview on Thursday.

But in places like NY or New Orleans, where the outbreak is at its worst, Fauci said the only possible strategy is 'mitigation - trying to prevent the best you can the spread'.

"They're still going way up". The United States is a big country, we have so many different regions.

Not surprisingly, Curry's Q&A with Dr. Fauci attracted a massive viewership.

The two were have a conversation on Instagram live when Obama joined and commented, "Listen to the science".

"And you can become the vector, or the carrier of infection, where you get infected, you feel well and then you inadvertently and innocently pass it on to your grandfather, your grandmother or an uncle who is on chemotherapy for cancer".

Fauci emphasized that social distancing is vital, saying young people should realize they're not immune to the virus.

The NBA season has been on hiatus since March 11, when Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus.

However, Fauci said that although the seasonal flu and common cold viruses tend to do better in cold weather and decrease during warmer weather, we shouldn't assume that the coronavirus acts similarly. Fauci noted in his commentary that medical officials in the USA are seeing the virus attack more younger patients than in other parts of the world. One, you need to protect yourself because you're not completely exempt from serious illness.

"Get instructions from them on what to do", Fauci said.

Curry has been active in trying to stem the tide of COVID-19, having donated 1 million meals to the Alameda County Food Bank.

Former Warriors teammates Andre Iguodala and Leandro Barbosa also watched the discussion, as did pop star Justin Bieber. Dr. Fauci cautioned that we don't know much with regard to this strand of virus or how far out an infected person could be shedding the virus.

"I appreciate everybody chiming in because I think this is really dope", Curry said before the chat began.
