Oscars 2020 Red Carpet: Director Spike Lee pays tribute to Kobe Bryant, wears Lakers-colored tuxedo

The Academy paid tribute to the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant at the 2020 Oscars Sunday.The former NBA star, killed alongside his daughter Gianna and seven others in a helicopter crash on January 26, was an Oscar victor himself.

Billie Eilish took the stage at the 2020 Oscars to pay tribute to Kobe Bryant, Kirk Douglas and more late stars and members of the entertainment industry.

In Bryant's acceptance speech at the 2018 Oscars, he spoke about how grateful he was to have created his award-winning short film. The custom purple-and-gold suit donned the numbers "2" and "4" on the lapels and a complete "24" on the back.

"Tribute, honor, homage. we all miss him", Lee said on the red carpet before the awarding ceremony.

Bryant won an Academy Award in 2018 for best animated short film for "Dear Basketball".

On Instagram, Lee posted, "Da Lee's Are In Da House", along with three purple hearts. He also wore orange sneakers on the red carpet.

"Dear Basketball" was based on a poem Kobe wrote about the sport when he was about to announce his retirement from the hard court in 2015. News. "I just gotta continue to do my work. You know, spreading love is the Brooklyn way", the director added.
