Jeff Bezos' Sales of Amazon Stock Reach $3.45 Billion in a Week

He sold more than $500 million in shares on February 7, the report noted, adding that the deal was prearranged.

Bezos net worth stands at roughly $126 billion, with nearly $117 billion of that still represented by Amazon stock. His latest sales were disclosed on Friday as the company's stock hit fresh highs.

A series of pre-arranged stock sales timed to follow fourth-quarter earnings raked in for the world's richest man nearly $3.5 billion in cash.

A spokesman for Amazon said in a statement to The Verge that the company is "nothing more important than the safety of its employees".

Last week Jeff Bezos sold a total of 1.7 million shares of his Amazon stockholdings, worth some $3.45 billion.

The mega-billionaire has been pumping money obtained through Amazon stock sales into Blue Origin as the company competes with SpaceX for contracts to launch commercial satellites and ultimately drive a space tourism market.

"My business model right now ... for Blue Origin is I sell about $1 billion of Amazon stock a year and I use it to invest in Blue Origin", Bezos told reporters at the annual U.S. Space Symposium in Colorado at the time. The rocket builder has since expanded operations and signalled its first human test flights this year.

Michael also claims in his filing that Bezos and Sanchez started their relationship earlier than originally thought. He was seen walking through the previews at Sotheby's in November. According to the same report, Bezos also bought "Vignette 19" by Kerry James Marshall for $18.5 million at Sotheby's. The tech titan, meanwhile, has been hunting around for another Los Angeles home, according to agents there. He still holds some 11 per cent of Amazon worth a spectacular $114.5 billion.
