The current Rapid in India has soldiered on unchanged since 2011, barring the facelift which resculpted the front-end of the vehicle, and added a few features. Up front, the headlights, grille and bumper are all new, with higher variants getting LED headlamps as standard. The rear gets new tail-lamps cluster design as well. The contours on the protruding nose and the floating bumper design add aggression to its face while the tight overhangs make it look quite tort.
The Interiors of the new Rapid comes with an all-new dashboard design and feature new components. Other design changes on the exteriors of the auto include has a black lip spoiler, black ORVMs, black alloy wheels and a new set of fog lamps. This includes an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit. The Indian model will be underpinned by the highly anticipated MQB AO IN platform and expected to be launched by mid-2021. Although, the steering wheel in the Rapid looks a bit fancier with its chrome toggle switches, compared to the Euro-spec Scala. The auto has a new three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and a fully-digital instrument cluster. These include a 1.6-litre engine producing either 89 BHP or 108 BHP and a 123 BHP 1.4-litre turbo petrol unit.
Skoda has revealed a first set of images and details of the revised version of the Rapid sedan that's sold in a few European markets and Russian Federation.
In the global market, the new Rapid will be available with three petrol engine options.
The former is paired to either a five-speed manual or six-speed torque-converter automatic, while the latter is exclusively mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This new platform will form the basis of a new Creta-rivalling SUV first, and will later spawn an all-new sedan that will eventually replace the current PQ25 platform-based Rapid in our market. What's interesting is that the same model will be offered in India as well after a few market-specific changes. With the new changes on the facelift version, the sedan is expected to carry the momentum with sales figures.
