Texas icon Willie Nelson told a San Antonio television station he has given up smoking after years of marijuana use has taken its toll.

Country music maverick and legendary stoner Willie Nelson says he has stopped smoking pot, which he has previously credited with saving his life. He explained that he's found it more hard to breathe in recent times.

Over the years, he's also become something of a walking, talking billboard for marijuana use, as an avid enthusiast and, recently, owner of his own cannabis products company, Willie's Reserve.

"I don't smoke anymore. I think that weed kept me from wanting to kill people".

In August, the veteran musician, who has battled emphysema, canceled his Willie Nelson & Family tour because of a "breathing problem" and then dropped out of his Farm-Aid appearance the following month.

But Nelson is still very much alive, even if rumors started circulating that he was near death after he had to cancel his shows.

One thing though Nelson won't be giving up is touring. "I don't give a fuck, I'm here, I'm glad to be here", and with a smile added, "I'm lucky to be here". He told the local affiliate that singing for an hour on stage is the best exercise for his lungs.

Of course, Nelson could - and nearly assuredly will - enjoy marijuana products and cannabis in other forms, as humans have advanced the industry past NEEDING to smoke it, after all.

"I love the bus", he said.

"He was never comfortable with me quitting, it just bothered him", Harrelson said in May 2018.

"That said", she said "Willie does what he wants, when he wants, when it comes to smoking".
