Developer Red Barrels announced its next project in a press release, confirming that The Outlast Trials is "still in the early stages of production" but that it plans to share more news about it soon.
As test subjects in a mystery Cold War experiment, players will be able to scare themselves stupid on their lonesome or work together with up to three unfortunate pals. In terms of platforms and a release date, nothing was discussed, but we'd hazard a guess at a late 2020 release on both PS4 and PS5.
The world of Outlast is a true survival horror experience which aims to show that the most terrifying monsters of all come from the human mind... and Red Barrels!
Interestingly, Red Barrels also confirmed that not only will the game NOT support VR (sorry PSVR folks), but that it will also be a spin-off set within the Outlast universe, rather than a full-blooded Outlast 3 style sequel.
The Outlast Trials is still in production and the team did not reveal any additional details. After all, it's always better to shit your trousers with some friends!
The goggles might have you wondering if The Outlast Trials is also a VR project, but Red Barrels already shut that idea down in a comment on its official Facebook page. Apart from the title, the fact that there is multiplayer involved and a creepy image, Red Barrels simply aren't ready to divulge any more information.
