DR Congo global and former Arsenal striker Benik Afobe has announced that his two-year-old daughter has unexpectedly passed away after a severe infection.
According to the statement, Amora Afobe (Benik Afobe's daughter) was admitted to the hospital for treatment after she unexpectedly developed severe infection. "Unfortunately, he suffered a series of serious complications and, despite the fact that the doctors did their best, Amora died peacefully with the love of his family by his side".
The statement said: "It is with an extremely heavy heart that the Afobe family have today confirmed the devastating news that their first child, their beloved daughter Amora, two, passed away late on Friday evening".
The 26-year-old, who is on a season-long loan deal with Bristol City, released a statement on Sunday.
Arsenal also gave its sympathies on Twitter, writing, "We are very disheartened to hear the tragic death of Benik Afobe's daughter, Amora Everyone in the Arsenal family gives love and support to Benik and his family at this tragic time".
Bristol City have dedicated their 5-2 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday to Afobe.
He is expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury. "The Wolves family are with you, Benik", Wolves, his former club, tweeted as quoted by The Sun.
Clubs across the UK united in support of Afobe and his family, including former Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere.
"The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Bristol City are with Benik and his wife Lois at this tragic time", said City executive Mark Ashton.
