Billie Eilish is sorry to that band.
Unfortunately, Billie is seeing the ire of some metal fans today. Billie was on a recent edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live and Jimmy pointed out the age disparity between them, saying he was Billie's age in 1984.
Speaking to Kimmel in the video below, Billie is overall a good sport-she talks about how she doesn't feel the need to be competitive with other artists, and how she still lives with her parents. In reality, no one even knows whether the pop star was being sarcastic or if she was being serious.
When Kimmel asked Eilish if she could name any member of Van Halen during the segment, she simply responded "Who? Listen to what you want and don't shame others for not knowing what you like".
"I do know who Madonna is", she replies.
"Who?" replies Billie, looking mystified.
Now that the reactions have erupted into fever pitch, 28-year-old bassist Wolfgang Van Halen - one of three Van Halens in the band and the son of guitar hero Eddie - weighed in as the voice of reason on the whole thing.
"I'm gonna start crying", he said. "If you haven't heard of Van Halen, go check them out".
"I know u guys think that this is ok and I get it but...cmon girl it's VAN HALEN". They're cool too. Music is supposed to bring us together, not divide us. To put it another way, are most Van Halen superfans deeply knowledgeable about Tommy Dorsey's work with Frank Sinatra?
All that said, if a Billie Eilish/Van Halen collaboration develops, we'll be the first to let you know.
