Patriots release kicker Kai Forbath

Report Former Clemson DL claimed off waivers by Patriots

Patriots waive Kai Forbath, 4th kicker of season

ESPN's Field Yates reported Monday that Huggins was claimed off of waivers by the New England Patriots.

Forbath missed an extra point Sunday night in the Patriots' loss to the Houston Texans, and he also made a chip-shot, 23-yard field goal and one extra-point attempt.

The Patriots signed Forbath last week when kicker Nick Folk had to undergo an emergency appendectomy.

Huggins was recently waived by the Philadelphia Eagles after being signed off of the Houston Texans' practice squad. Forbath has played 78 regular-season games in his career and made 121-of-141 (85.8%) field goals and converted 173-of-185 (93.5%) extra points for 536 career points.

It's unclear what New England will do now, although Folk could return, as his recovery time was expected to be minimal.

Folk appears to remain in the Patriots' plans for the remainder of the season when he's healthy. The Patriots scrambled to find a veteran replacement, bringing in Forbath, who worked out with the team during their initial kicker search earlier this year.

Stephen Gostkowski, who was in his 14th season with the Patriots, was placed on season-ending injured reserve on October 2 and had surgery for a left hip injury.
