Digital notebook app Flow by Moleskine was the top iPad app, while Serif Labs' Affinity Publisher publishing and design app took top honours for Mac.
In addition to apps, Apple also made editorial selections for other media categories, including best podcasts and books of the year.
In terms of games, the iPhone game of the year 2019 goes to the great Sky: Children of the Light, the latest from the developer of the wonderful PlayStation title Journey.
Apple also released the list of top apps and games on iPhone and iPad.
Apple has announced the App Store's best apps and games of 2019.
Additionally, "Sayonara Wild Hearts", developed by Simogo and published by Annapurna Interactive bagged the Apple Arcade Game of the Year.
Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phill Schiller said that the App Store winners represent a diverse group of both large and small developers. "We congratulate all the winners and thank them for making 2019 the best year yet for the App Store".
Like past year, Apple's App Store editorial team highlighted two App Store trends too. For instance, in gaming, it was all about reimagining blockbusters. The 2019 App Trend of the Year was 'Storytelling Simplified,' with Apple featuring apps focused on telling stories through a wide range of media, spotlighting Anchor, Canva, Unfold, Steller, Spark Camera, Over, and Wattpad.
