Carmelo Anthony’s back, will wear No. 00 for Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers have signed veteran forward Carmelo Anthony to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Now he will get a chance to prove it. Anthony posted a video on his YouTube channel explaining his decision.

"Everything kind of happened in like 48 hours", the 35-year-old Anthony said about joining the Blazers.

"I always kept my eye on Portland", Anthony said. The 12-time All-Star has been working out regularly in hopes of a return.

He will be activated for Tuesday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Yahoo's Chris Haynes reports.

The Blazers were reportedly interested in Anthony in the summer of 2017. The Blazers expressed interest in potentially acquiring him when Anthony was a member of the New York Knicks. Portland has not yet announced when Melo will make his season debut, but it is believed that he'll be on the court tonight in NOLA.

Anthony has worked out with McCollum in the past and said he and Lillard have stayed in contact.

Says Anthony, "Me and Dame [Lillard], we've been talking for the past couple years off and on. This is where I can help.' It will only work if all parties see it the same way".

Anthony has not played since November 8, 2018, when he appeared in the last of 10 games for the Houston Rockets last season.

Anthony was acquired by the Chicago Bulls from Houston on January 21, with the intention of trading him before the deadline or letting him go.

Anthony, who is 6-foot-8, can play at both the small forward and power forward positions, but is likely to slot into a power forward role with the Blazers, who have struggled since losing power forward Zach Collins to shoulder surgery in late October.

"What happened before is the past, I can't dwell on that".

Anthony is second only to LeBron James among active all-time scorers, with career averages of 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He averaged 13.4 points on 40.5-per cent shooting in 29.4 minutes.
