Sony's mobile business has been going downhill for a few years now as its shipment volumes continue to dwindles. Joining the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi, Nokia, and the rest, the Japanese firm this time is early to the Android 10 party update. As expected, the Japanese company announced that its most recent smartphones, the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 will be among the first to receive the Android 10 update this December. Owners of Xperia 10, Xperia 10 Plus, Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ2 Premium, and Xperia XZ3 will receive Android 10 updates starting early 2020.
While Sony intends to make Android 10 available for the aforementioned phones, it does mention that "software rollouts are a phased process - timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator" in the blog post. Yesterday, Sony joined the former category and announced which of its phones will get Android 10 and when to expect it. The company isn't disappointing them and has today published an official blog post with the Android 10 update timeline. The update will probably first reach Sony Xperia users on DoCoMo in Japan before a wider rollout.
Based on the list, Sony is not only updating its 2018 and 2019 flagship phones but also the mid-range Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus.
