Man arrested in connection with disappearance of UFC fighter’s stepdaughter

Ibraheem Yazeed

Florida authorities arrest suspect in disappearance of Alabama college student

Blanchard is a student at Southern Union community college.

According to our CBS affiliate, WKRG, Yazeed was booked in the Escambia County Jail at 2:30 a.m. on Friday.

Yazeed was arrested on an out-of-state-fugitive charge and is being held without bond, according to inmate records.

In Florida, deputies were called by us marshals to help them with the arrest at about 11 p.m. on Thursday alongside the Pine Forest exit on Interstate 10, Escambia Sheriff's Maj.

Ibraheem Yazeed, sought in connection to the disappearance of 19-year-old Aniah Blanchard, has been captured, according to online records and police.

This is a developing story.

"The marshals were the ones who handcuffed him and took him into custody", Hobbs said.

US Marshals in Montgomery Alabama called the marshals in Florida Thursday after receiving a tip that Yazeed may be in the area of Pine Forest and Interstate 10 in the Sunshine State, local outlet WEAR-TV reported. Further investigation and analysis of evidence has determined that Yazeed, was at the same location Blanchard was last seen and is involved in taking Aniah against her will.

"To say the least, it's upsetting", Walt Harris told NBC News earlier Thursday, when Yazeed was identified as a person of interest.

Evidence in her auto led police to believe the 19-year-old college student, who is the stepdaughter of UFC heavyweight Walt Harris, was harmed during the crime. Days later on October 31, police confirmed evidence found inside the vehicle indicated she had been harmed.

Yazeed's run-ins with Alabama law enforcers date back nearly a decade.

In 2017, Yazeed was charged with aggravated assault, battery of a police officer, possession of marijuana and fleeing police in Johnson County, Kansas.

Investigators initially said they didn't believe Blanchard was the victim of foul play, but evidence has since been recovered from her vehicle indicating that she was harmed, police said late last month. Those charges were ultimately dismissed by a grand jury, as were two attempted murder charges levied against Yazeed the next year after he allegedly tried to hit two police officers with a vehicle. A judge Thursday revoked his bond in the cases once a warrant was issued against Yazeed in connection to Blanchard's disappearance.

She was reported missing by her family the following day. "It's evident she was special to so many people".
