France coach Deschamps calms Chelsea over Kante injury

Chelsea's Kante injured for France - Boost for the Magpies?

N'golo Kante injured on international duty

The 28-year-old had been included in France's starting lineup for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Iceland on Friday.

N'Golo Kante was withdrawn from the France team to play Iceland because of injury prior to kick-off in Reykjavik.

"He felt a pain in his adductor muscle", Deschamps explained. "He had a feeling where he didn't feel comfortable to play".

However, Kante was forced to withdraw after pulling up with a hamstring problem in the warm-up and was replaced by Tottenham's Moussa Sissoko. I made the decision [to remove him from the team] because maybe it could get worse. By putting Moussa in, I knew that he was ready.

The Blues have a top-quality squad but if Kante's injury is serious enough to see him miss the clash, the Steve Bruce will be confident of getting something from the match.

Olivier Giroud was the focal point in attack, supported by Antoine Griezmann, with Kylian Mbappe on the injured list along with midfield playmaker Paul Pogba and Hugo Lloris, the goalkeeper and regular captain of Les Bleus.

The former Leicester dynamo has struggled all season with injuries, playing just three times in the Premier League this term.

The midfielder's club side will also be sweating over his fitness.

Kante has featured in only half of Chelsea's eight Premier League matches so far this season.
