Ansu Fati was called up for Spain U21 duty on Friday after Barcelona teammate Carles Perez was forced to withdraw with a muscle problem.

However, Fati won't be included in the U17 World Cup squad, Spain's youth director Francisco Hernandez confirmed earlier this week.

Spain senior coach Robert Moreno said Fati was on his preliminary list for the current worldwide break.

"I like that Ansu's with the U21s", Moreno said.

"This was following a wider sporting review in that we consider him in a better position to play with an older category and for that to be the case, he can not come to the Under-17 World Cup".

Ansu Fati could play for the Spanish national team this year after rejecting the chance to play for his birth country Guinea-Bissau.

"I'm not ruling out the fact that he could play at Euro 2020".

The game with Norway will be a landmark occasion for captain Sergio Ramos, who is set to overtake Iker Casillas and become Spain's record appearance-maker on 167 games.

Moreno praised Ramos ahead of today's game but said he had not discussed the Olympics with the 33-year-old. "It's very hard to maintain your performance level at his age but he keeps doing that", added Moreno.

Spain U-21 coach Luis de la Fuente was unable to call him up a week ago because the correct paperwork authorizing his call-up into the Spanish squad had not arrived.
