WNBA Finals: Sun force Game 5 after dramatic win over Mystics

Sun force Game 5 in WNBA Finals with 90-86 win over Mystics

The Sun defeated the Mystics 90-86 on Tuesday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena to force a deciding Game 5 of the WNBA Finals, which will tip off in less than 48 hours in the District of Columbia. Alyssa Thomas has managed to get 1.9 steals a game. "When we're all locked in and on the same page, we just move in unison".

The 2019 WNBA Finals are heading to the nation's capital for a decisive Game 5. "If you grew up a basketball fan, these are the moments you dreamed of". Centre Jonquel Jones scored a game-high 18 points to go along with 13 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Mystics trailed by 18 at one point in the first quarter Tuesday and ended it trailing 32-17, a cardinal sin in a series in which the victor of the first period has gone on to win every game. They won the "hustle stats", an asset they pride themselves on, and kept the heat as the Mystics struggled with their shot, going 6 of 20 in the first quarter. With their season on the line, the Sun responded. It was tied again at 81 when Thomas hit a 3, followed by a tying shot by Meesseman, and the game-winning 3 by Stricklen. The Mystics had a two-point lead with 3:41 left in the game but didn't score for the final 2:10 of the game.

"Both teams were making big shots. We'd make a 3, they'd answer with a 3", Miller said. "Ultimately we made a few more plays down the stretch".

"Tonight, everybody [on Connecticut] got a little piece of the pie and now we're sitting here empty-handed", guard Aerial Powers said.

Thomas was one of the better shooters for CT and finished with 17 points. Ariel Atkins has managed to get only 1.5 assist a game. When we started getting touches and finding open shooters and moving the ball side-to-side - [the Sun] are not a great defensive team. "We need to be better come Thursday". 2019 league MVP Elena Delle Donne, who continues to play through a back injury, finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds in 30 minutes of action. She had 11 points while shooting 5 for 8 with five rebounds and two blocks. Even with them playing extremely well, we were right there. "They weren't letting us sit outside and shoot 3s".

Having a chance to win the title at home on Thursday gave the Mystics some confidence. " ... We know we can play a whole lot better and a lot smarter". "Can't rely on being home to get it done". The way we came out and started the game dug us into a huge hole. "They are a great team, and you give that type of lead to them, makes thing hard".

Game 4 held to form for this series, with the team that led after the first quarter coming away with the victory. Toliver said after the Mystics clinched that series, explaining her return to the starting lineup. In the opening game for the Sun in the series, they were able to really take care of the Mystics rather easily as they won the game by 9 points and would like to repeat that game. CT was ahead by 12 in the second game and Washington by 15 in Game 3. Jones had 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting and Williams had 16 on 7-for-17 shooting.

CT took 26 free throws to only 13 by Washington, with Delle Donne and Meesseman only combining for three attempts.
