Trump has criticized Schiff for his characterization of a July phone call the president had with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy, which prompted Democrats to launch an impeachment inquiry.

President Donald Trump on Sunday heightened his attacks on Democrats who are pursuing an impeachment inquiry against him, claiming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Adam Schiff were both guilty of treason.

In a pair of tweets on Sunday, Trump suggested that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Adam Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, were both guilty of treason.

"Nancy Pelosi knew of all of the many shifty Adam Schiff lies and massive frauds perpetrated upon Congress and the American people", Mr Trump tweeted, referring to Mr Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chairman. I guess that means that they, along with all of those that evilly "Colluded' with them, must all be immediately Impeached!" posted Trump on Twitter.

Schiff previously characterized Trump's call with Zelenksy to a "classic mafia shakedown of a foreign leader".

Earlier Wednesday, former Vice President Joe Biden declared his support for Trump's impeachment during a Rochester, N.H., stump speech.

Because of the news that Trump may have pressured the Ukrainian president to investigate a political rival, Pelosi chose to launch a formal impeachment inquiry on September 24.

Trump has slammed Schiff for falsely stating that his committee hadn't spoken to the whistleblower and for paraphrasing the president's conversation with Zelensky during a hearing.

"Rep. Adam Schiff illegally made up a FAKE & awful statement, pretended it to be mine as the the most important part of my call to the Ukrainian President, and read it aloud to Congress and the American people", Trump tweeted on September 30.

"I've read the transcript", he said, "The Department of Justice has looked at it and said no crime has been committed by the president".

Members of Congress cannot be impeached but Congress can vote to censure or expel a member with a two-thirds majority.

President Trump's re-election campaign and the RNC raised more than $125 million dollars in the 3 quarter of 2019; raising new questions over Nancy Pelosi's recent impeachment push and its impact on the 2020 election.
