A release date for Marshall's The Little Mermaid has not yet been announced. With key roles now being cast, it has been revealed that Hamilton actor Daveed Diggs May have a role. Of the live-action remakes, the only outright box office bomb has been Alice Through The Looking Glass, while other films have merely broken even or served as relatively minor disappointments.
He would join the previously announced Halle Bailey as Ariel. In addition to his duties as a songwriter, Lin-Manuel Miranda will serve as an executive producer alongside Rob Marshall, Marc Platt, and John DeLuca. To that end, she strikes a deal with villain Ursula.
Alan Menken, who was awarded two Oscars for the original animated feature (best score and best original song for "Under the Sea"), will once again handle the musical aspect of the new version. Based on Hans Christian Andersen's Danish fairy tale, it tells the story of a 16-year-old mermaid princess named Ariel who longs to be human.
Producers are now casting for the flick, which begins production next year (2020), with singer/actress Halle Bailey confirmed to play the eponymous Ariel in the film.
The film which is set to star Halle Bailey as Ariel, and directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) is now looking to round out its cast as the film continues to search for its Prince Eric.
