"We handled some adversity today", Burrow told SEC Network after the game against Vanderbilt.

Quarterback Joe Burrow threw a school-record 6 touchdown passes, completing 25 of 34 pass attempts for 398 yards.

Vanderbilt: The Commodores came in as the only FBS team without a sack this season, and the closest they came to hitting Burrow early was on a roughing the passer penalty in the first quarter. His performance, which comes under the Tigers' new lethal spread offense, came days after his Heisman odds in Vegas surged.

Sophomore wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was Burrow's top target, tallying three touchdowns and 199 yards on seven catches in the first half. Seven plays later, he dragged a pile of defenders into the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown run.

LSU (4-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) scored four first-quarter touchdowns in just 4:35 of possession time, opening a 21-point lead at the end of the period.

Burrow also set LSU records for passing yards in a first half (357) and consecutive 350-yard passing games (3). "As long as we can protect the quarterback, we're going to make big plays at LSU".

Chase caught a game-high 10 passes.

Burrow is in his second year as LSU's starter after transferring from Ohio State following the 2017 season.

The Commodores responded with a 36-yard reception by wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb.

Vanderbilt worked its way downfield for Vaughn's second touchdown.

Baskerville later blocked a punt he recovered for a TD. Against Northwestern State, Joe Burrow passed for 373 yards and Myles Brennan threw for 115.

Freshman cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and junior safety JaCoby Stevens provided interceptions of their own for LSU - the first of the season by each.

Vanderbilt responded on the following drive as quarterback Riley Neal connected with Kalija Lipscomb for an 18-yard touchdown pass.

Burrow, Jefferson, Marshall, Fehoko and senior linebacker Michael Divinity Jr. all appeared hobbled at times, with all but Burrow exiting the game following their hits.

After another Vandy three-and-out, the Tigers added a third touchdown just 10:02 into the game on running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire's 9-yard rushing score.

LSU will enjoy a well-timed bye week next Saturday before hosting Utah State (1-1) on October 5 and its next SEC foe, Florida (4-0, 2-0), on October 12.
