Gang Starr announce first new music in 16 years

Gang Starr Returns with ‘Family and Loyalty’ Featuring J. Cole

Gang Starr – “Family And Loyalty” (Feat. J. Cole)

Guru died due to cardiac arrest.

Though they never "officially" disbanded after the release of their last project (The Ownerz 2003), Premier and Guru still remained infinitely connected to each other even as they embarked on solo paths.

The shocking thing about this new release is, Guru is late, has been since 2010. Following a move south to New York, Guru linked with DJ Premier, where his heady, straight-faced rapping and Premier's jazz-indebted scratches and production (initially serrated, minimal; later luxurious and orchestral) created a world-conquering pairing that would become a high-water mark in the pantheon of NYC rap. J. Cole was honestly the flawless fit for this tune and does classic Gang Starr justice.

Gang Starr is undoubtedly one of the most revered, beloved and influential groups in Hip Hop. Premier captioned the video with, "I gotta call Nas".

The answer to the question would be "YES" because of all the hints provided by DJ Premier himself.

It's a nostalgia-inducing song for OG rap fans, with a mellow old-school hip-hop beat and of course rhymes from the late Guru.

"This record means so much to me", DJ Premier said in a statement". "When Cole heard the record he got the chills and knew it was a classic", he explained.

Premier posted a video to IG on Wednesday that featured a phone message from Nas.

Gang Starr is back with a new joint, Family and Loyalty featuring rapper, J. Cole.

Fans are happy by the announcement made by DJ Premier. He captioned the photo with, "Dropping at Midnight".
