Teenager Erling Haaland scores hat-trick on Champions League debut

Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland marks debut with hat-trick

Erling Braut Haaland is the son of ex-EPL defender Alf Inge Haaland

It was history for former New York Red Bulls and Montreal Impact head coach Jesse Marsch on Tuesday, as his Red Bull Salzburg demolished Belgian side Genk 6-2.

Salzburg striker Erling Haaland became only the eighth player to ever score three times on their Champions League debut.

The 19-year-old, son of ex-Manchester City and Leeds United defender Alf Inge Haaland, became only the eighth player to score three times on their debut in Europe's elite competition. The youngest two players to achieve the same feat were Raul (18 years, 113 days) and Wayne Rooney (18 years, 340 days).

Harland is in superb form in front of goal, having scored 17 in nine matches.

Name a better love story than Erling Braut Haaland and goals. I hope to get more caps than he did'.

Newly plying his trade at Red Bull Salzburg after leaving Molde in August 2018, the young striker had already scored an astonishing 14 goals in eight games going into the mid-week fixtures.

He hit the headlines in the summer after remarkably finding the back of the net nine times during Norway Under-20s' World Cup win over Honduras.

That strike, combined with efforts from Hwang Hee-Chan and Dominik Szoboszlai, meant that the home side returned to the dressing room with a whopping 5-1 lead.

Salzburg travel to Anfield to face defending champions Liverpool in their next group tie on October 2.
