Square Enix has announced plans to release the first three games in its long-running Dragon Quest series for Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest I, II and III are set to release on the Nintendo Switch, alongside Dragon Quest XII, on the 27th of September, 2019.

The most recent game (excluding the quietly excellent Builders sequel), Dragon Quest XI, will also be coming to the Switch on the same day, September 27th.

"This modern collection of the classic titles features simple and intuitive controls that mimic retro gameplay, paying homage to where the legacy began", a press release reads. So, it only makes sense that Nintendo would want to add the mother of all RPGs, Dragon Quest - known a Dragon Warrior in the West - to its diverse arsenal.

The iconic Erdrick trilogy begins in the acclaimed Dragon Quest where players begin their voyage as the "Hero", a descendant of the valiant hero Erdrick in an epic journey through the historic realm of Alefgard. Pricing has yet to be confirmed for Australia, but in the US, Dragon Quest will be sold for $4.99 USD, Dragon Quest 2 for $6.49 USD, and Dragon Quest 3 for $12.49 USD.
