Discord drops Nitro Games catalog, citing lack of gamer interest

Discord has made a decision to stop supplying Discord Nitro subscribers with a catalog of free games, the company announced in a blog post.

It's been almost a year since Discord expanded its Nitro subscription service, transforming the offering into a game subscription service.

As a result, the Nitro Games catalog will be taken offline on October 15, 2019.

"We learned a lot from all of you over the a year ago", the company wrote.

"So, after careful consideration, we won't be hitting Continue when these contracts come up for renewal", Discord wrote. As for the games you're accessing via your Nitro subscription, you have a little over a month to play them until they expire. For $4.99 a month, users were able to access additional features such as animated avatars and emojis, access to cross-server custom emojis (normally only usable on the host server for free users), increased maximum size for file uploads, and other small perks like a unique badge on their profile. Discord says removing the games from the service will afford them the "resources to refocus".

More additions to the $10 package are promised for the future: Discord said it's "going to double down on making sure Nitro nails its mission", with "more features, fun, and enhancements for hanging out in Discord with the people you care about".

As a result, Discord says it will remove the service on October 15 with refunds being offered to those who want to cancel their Nitro subscriptions.
