UNBC among top five per cent of universities in the world

India has jumped significantly in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020, with 56 institutions making it to the list, up from 49 previously.

The University of Oxford has been ranked the world's best university for the fourth successive year by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

"We are honored to be recognized for the growing impact of the outstanding teaching and discovery taking place at the University of Washington", UW President Ana Mari Cauce said.

To get the rankings, Times Higher Education assessed nearly 1,400 post-secondary institutions across 92 countries.

"The University is delighted that the work we have put into enriching education and research is being reflected in our improved position in both the world and United Kingdom rankings", said Professor Mariann Rand-Weaver, Vice Provost for Education at Brunel.

Times Higher Education is the only global ranking that evaluates research-intensive universities across all core missions-teaching, research, knowledge transfer and worldwide outlook. Because they attempt to compare universities that exist in a range of contexts - cultural, financial, historical, social and political - rankings are inherently imperfect, particularly when it comes to developing countries.

Edinburgh Napier dropped out of the top 800 universities in the world, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) guide, while Queen Margaret failed to make the top 1,000. The only university in the top 20 that isn't in Canada, the USA or the United Kingdom is in Switzerland. In all 10 Indian universities which participated for the first time made it to the global ranking list of 1,300 universities.

The school finished with a score of 42 points in the latest data.

University of Lagos ranked between 801 and 1000 on the list.

Elsewhere in New Zealand, the University of Otago remained in the 201-250 bracket and the University of Canterbury stayed at 301-350.

But there's always room for improvement especially when you're not at the top.

Glasgow was the only other Scottish establishment to rank in the top 100, placing 99th.

There are stories everywhere.
