South African singer and Idols SA runner-up, Thami Shobede, died at Kalafong Hopsital in Pretoria on Thursday morning, 12 September at the age of 31.

Details surrounding the cause of death have not been confirmed with the public yet.

Thami impressed fans with his velvet voice on season 12 of Idols SA, where he emerged as the runner up to Noma Khumalo.

According to the Sowetan, Shobede was admitted to hospital after collapsing when performing on stage at the weekend. The article stated that the reason for the collapse was due to organ failure, resulting in Thami lapsing into a coma on Tuesday, 10 September 2019.

"Our condolences go out to all his friends and family".

Paying tribute to Thami, the Department of Arts and Culture tweeted: "The entertainment industry has lost yet another incredibly talented musician after the untimely passing of Idols Top 2 Finalist, Thami Shobede. My daughter's favourite. Rest in peace young man".

The general manager at Gallo Records, Robert Cowling said: "Gallo Record Company is extremely saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden passing of one of our artists, Siphiwe Thamsanqa Shobede, fondly known as Thami". I can't believe that you're gone just like that, I pray that your family may be comforted at this time.
