The new series will explore the height of the Targaryens' power after Jon Snow and Daenerys' ancestor, Aegon the Conqueror, invaded Westeros with his dragons and united it under the Iron Throne, becoming the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms.

A prequel to Game of Thrones has just wrapped filming, but HBO is reportedly planning another spin-off, and it's going to make fans very happy. The prequel series is slated to take place three centuries before the start of "Game of Thrones" and closely follows "the beginning of the end" of the House Targaryen. "The one I am not supposed to call THE LONG NIGHT will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer". What are they about? "I can not say", he wrote on his blog. It should not come as a surprise that this new prequel focusing on the Targaryen dynasty would be based on the newest Martin book, given that "fire and blood" are the key words associated with that family. The Targaryens are plagued with madness throughout their bloodline, and share a close bond with dragons.
In 2018, before Game of Thrones ended, another prequel was already in the works. And only one thing is for sure: "from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend ... it's not the story we think we know". It's not the only GoT spin-off project in the works at HBO: Naomi Watts is starring in a separate spin-off that began shooting this winter, and has since moved into post-production. Martin will write the script for the revamped prequel alongside Ryan Condal, who previously co-created the U.S. series Colony.
The Targaryen-based project would be the second prequel spinoff for "Game of Thrones".
Nine other stars have also signed on, including Jonathan Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Jamie Campbell Bower, Denise Gough, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo.
