Jones, who is set to earn $9.6 million in 2019, has two years left on the five-year deal worth $71 million he signed in 2015, but the expectation has always been that he will have a new contract in place before Atlanta opens the regular season.

Now two seasons removed from his ACL surgery, Dalvin Cook is ready to be the "straw that stirs the drink" for the Minnesota Vikings' 2019 offense.

A year after rushing on 33% of plays, the fifth-lowest rate in the National Football League, a refocused emphasis on the ground game came complete with a healthy Cook, who carved up Atlanta's defense with his cutback runs. There is still hope that Atlanta can get a last-minute deal done before the season was to start. Ryan had the second best season of his career, throwing for 4,924 yards and 35 touchdowns. If he puts pen to paper, it is likely that he will see the field against the Vikings. He holds eight franchise receiving records, and with 10,731 yards he trails only Roddy White's 10,863.

The defensive line, outside of a couple of impressive moments for Grady Jarrett, was absolutely useless. Jones, who signed a $66 million, three-year contract extension on Saturday, was targeted 11 times but managed only 31 yards on six catches.

In that game, Kirk Cousins threw the ball just 10 times.

Cook, who can be a star if he stays healthy, had 74 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown by halftime as the Vikings led 21-0.

The Vikings went 8-7-1 last season and were eliminated from playoff contention with a Week 17 home loss to NFC North rival Chicago. Diggs did not practice Wednesday due to a hamstring issue. The Minnesota Vikings have won four of their last five regular season openers. Outside linebacker Anthony Barr signed a five-year, $67.5 million contract after earning his fourth straight Pro Bowl nod.

Atlanta was arguably the most injury-plagued team in football last season. However, Ryan was intercepted twice and sacked four times.

Jones sealed his future with the Falcons on the same day Brown was released by Oakland without playing a game for the Raiders after numerous run-ins with coaches and management.
