Netflix to bring He-Man animated series

Kevin Smith Creating New He-Man Animated Series

Director Kevin Smith dropped some surprise news at Power-Con in Anaheim, California on Sunday, revealing he's making a new Masters of the Universe anime series for Netflix.

Kevin Smith is bringing He-Man to Netflix!

As of right now, Masters of the Universe: Revelation doesn't have a premiere date.

"But after a ferocious final battle forever fractures Eternia, it's up to Teela to solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to prevent the end of the Universe!" the description continues.

While Masters of the Universe was an animated series created to sell toys, fans of the franchise love it and want to see more and more they shall get.

In a statement, Smith said he was grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting him with not only the secrets of Grayskull but also the entire universe. This will lead up to, according to Smith, "what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor!".

"'Masters of the Universe' has been a cultural phenomenon for generations, inspiring fans to discover their own power within", vice president of Mattel TV Rob David added.

You might be familiar with Powerhouse Animation for their work on Netflix's elite series Castlevania.

Eric Carrasco, Tim Sheridan, Diya Mishra and Marc Bernardin are on board as writers, with animation by Powerhouse Animation.

This is the first announcement about the new series, and all that has been let slip so far is that it'll pick up where the 1980s animated series left off, unlike the more recent Netflix reboot She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power. You take a show like She-Ra and you can see why it works so brilliantly: It's a reinvention that picks the best parts of its past, runs wild with it and isn't afraid to craft a new story that feels wholly fresh.
