While we normally talk about China being the biggest market for a film outside of the U.S., Toy Story 4 actually got a lot of help from some smaller countries on its way to $1 billion.
As for 2019, five of the six-highest grossing movies now belong to Disney with the only outlier being Spider-Man: Far From Home, which was distributed by Sony.
To $1 billion, and beyond! It is Disney's fifth billion-dollar grossing film of 2019, following Aladdin, The Lion King, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame - all of which made more than $1 billion earlier this year. The company will release "Frozen 2", a "Maleficent" sequel and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" in the coming months, meaning Disney could continue to elevate that bar. Although the film was critiqued for "only" bringing in $120 million on its opening weekend, that didn't slow it down over the summer. Josh Cooley's film is Hollywood's biggest ever movie in terms of admissions in Mexico, where it has grossed $72 million. Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the talking toys from Toy Story 4 crossed the $1 billion mark on Wednesday, earning an estimated $1,001.7 million worldwide.
