New 'Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' Trailer Amps Up the Action, Stakes, and Mythology

Netflix has been known for bringing back a lot of dead franchises, and this year they're gearing up for the release of the prequel series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

The original film, which Muppets impresario Jim Henson co-directed with Frank Oz, grossed over $US40 million ($A58 million) on a $US16 million ($A23 million) budget.

And we don't have to wait much longer - The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance hits Netflix August 30. Children of the '80s will swim in nostalgia with this epic fantasy adventure while a new generation will be introduced to the world of Thra. The main characters are played by Taron Egerton (the Kingsman movies), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), and the rest of cast list is equally impressive.

Netflix described the series adding, "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all-new adventure".

Here's a plot summary: Light the fires of resistance! It includes Mark Hamill, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Helena Bonham Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander. Now it's up to three Gelfling to lead a rebellion and save their world after they discover the terrifying secret behind the Skeksis' power. The show's executive producers are Leterrier, Halle Stanford, and Jim Henson's daughter, Lisa Henson.
