A young man in India has pushed his brand-new BMW into a river in an apparent protest against his parents' refusal to buy him a Jaguar for his birthday. It is unclear if they managed to get the BMW out of the water.
A group of men begin pulling the auto from the river.
"When the youth was plunging the high-end BMW auto into the river, he also made a video and put it on social media", the police said.
Akash shared a video on social media of his brand new vehicle floating away.
"Akash was unhappy with his father for not buying him Jaguar", a police spokesperson told the outlet.
The vehicle was eventually removed from the river and police will now investigate.
The 22-year-old man was identified only as Akash; according to police, he has a mental deficiency and is undergoing treatment.
He dad said: "We have two cars, a BMW and a Swift".
The son apparently had demanded a new Jaguar for his birthday and was unimpressed with the BMW, which he thought was too small.
"We never imagined he would do anything like this".
They told the Times of India that while Akash "had certain mental health issues" he had not driven the vehicle into the canal deliberately and had just swerved to avoid an antelope that was crossing the road.
In India, a BMW of that type would typically cost around $49,000, while the coveted Jaguar would have set the young man's parents back around $60,000, reported the BBC.
