Dangerous heat returns as some kids head back to school Monday

Most of the state is listed in the Monday heat advisory, which is expected to continue through Tuesday. The current Heat Advisory expires at 7 p.m. Monday before transitioning into the Excessive Heat Warning. High temperatures Tuesday will be among the highest of the year: upper 90s.

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The hottest so far in both Huntsville and Muscle Shoals is 98ºF.

The heat is expected to crank-up even higher this week. Today's high will be near 102 with a heat index of 105-110. Don't let your eyes deceive you! If you have any of these symptoms then get to a cooler and air conditioned place, drink water and take a cool shower or use cold compresses. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
