Ronaldo and Messi are considered two of the best players to ever grace a football pitch.
Cristiano Ronaldo says Lionel Messi will go down in history for the consistency of his performances, but the Portuguese also feels that lifting the Champions League with more than one club sets him apart from the Barcelona star.
The Seleção star was speaking to DAZN ahead of the new season, marking Ronaldo's 18 at professional level, during which time he has represented Sporting, Manchester United, Real Madrid and now Juventus in a glittering career that has also led to worldwide success with his country at Euro 2016.
"I work first to win trophies for the team, then that takes you to individual honours", he intimated.
"The difference with me is that I've won the Champions League with different clubs", Ronaldo explained in an interview with DAZN.
"I was the top scorer in the Champions League six seasons in a row".
"I wake up every morning with the idea in my head of training with the objective of achieving something more, not just to earn money".
"Not only for the Ballons d'Or he has won but for also being a player who was always at the top year after year, just like me".
"There are great players that I respect who have three, four or, at most, five years at their peak".
Ronaldo, 34, is looking to help Juventus win a ninth straight Serie A title this season, while Messi's Barcelona are looking to seal a fifth La Liga title in six years.
"Thank God, I don't lack money, so what I want to earn is a place in the history of football". Ronaldo speaks highly of the French manager, who joined him in leaving Madrid last summer, only to return for the closing stages of the season.
"Zidane made me feel special", he added.
"I appreciated him a lot as a person and when he became my coach, he was even better, I became an even bigger Zidane fan".
"Zidane always said to me 'Cris, relax". That gave me a lot of confidence.
