Thirty-six years after the original film which won several accolades, its sequel was being created with Tom Cruise still as one of the main characters, however, presence of the female protagonist was uncertain till Kelly McGillis revealed to a leading media house that she wasn't asked to be a part of it.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, McGillis says she was not asked to be a part of the upcoming sequel, and she's fairly certain she can guess why. "I don't really keep in touch with anybody", she told ET. "I would have to assess where I am, what I'm doing, what's going on ..."
She added: "I can't project what I would or wouldn't do in the future. I have no idea because I don't know where I'll be".
"What I thought the whole time was, 'Why did I think I was so fat and why did I think I was so ugly?' I really had issues", she said. "I feel I've spoken to a few individuals sometimes, however the reality is, films are very odd work conditions as a result of you have got lots of people who come collectively from all completely different components of the world".
"Movies are odd things".
Kelly McGillis, pictured in 2014, said, "I'd much rather feel absolutely secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age".
McGillis now lives in North Carolina with her two children and said she left Hollywood as part of her journey toward sobriety.
She continued: "I dunno". If she's going to be Cruise's paramour in the popcorn flick, McGillis isn't bitter about it.
Prime Gun Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski and can be launched in theatres on 26 June 2020. I am actually rooted in my residence life ... "But I get the option to work, so I'm really blessed in that way", the actress said.
