A minor natural disaster that struck outside Seattle has reportedly been felt as far north as the Vancouver area.

Several smaller earthquakes have shaken the Monroe area since then. The second - measured at magnitude 3.5, occurred near Monroe a few minutes later.

The quake hit at about 2:52 a.m.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said in a tweet that the agency would be inspecting bridges Friday morning, but had no reports of damage.

People reported shaking in the Seattle area to as far south as Tacoma and Olympia, the USGS said.

The Northwest is especially prone to earthquakes.

The natural disaster initially registered as a 4.7 magnitude and was then downgraded to 4.4 before eventually going back up to a 4.6. The quake was followed by a 3.5 aftershock.

There isn't a connection between this natural disaster and the ones that rocked California earlier this month, Steele said.
