The full reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer will be held on August 1 through a Twitch livestream. Activision's announced the reveal today after the world premiere of the two-vs-two multiplayer game mode, Gunfight. As for the story itself, it'll be completely new, rather than a rehash of the 2007 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare narrative, dealing with some hard-hitting subject matter.
A glimpse at cross-play is also in the pipeline, which will enable players to compete against one another in multiplayer matches across all platforms, vastly expanding the connected CoD community. The new match type will pit two teams of two players against each other in a confined arena with the same inventory loadouts and 40 seconds rounds.
Gunfight is unlike the other multiplayer modes found in the previous Call of Duty games. "First duo to reach the round win limit is victorious". Players typically play solo or in teams of four to eight players and have access to a wide range of weapons and equipment.
Gunfight has three maps: Pine, which is set in a forest; Stack, a container yard in the desert; and King, a warehouse training area that feels a lot like Captain Price's plywood-and-spray paint training ground from the original Modern Warfare.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 1, at 10 am Pacific Time when Activision and Infinity Ward will reveal the multiplayer universe of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare comes out October 25 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PCs.
